As our Church, Town, Alberta and world are praying and rallying together to help the citizens of this city just destroyed by fire. It being declared as a state of emergency, and the worst disaster of it's kind in Alberta history.
At present we have been urged by the concerned officials to be reminded that everyone is out of their homes and will be for a week or two as authorities are still fighting to completely douse the fire. Then they have to reconnect and repair, power lines, water supplies, telephone lines, gas lines. before it is safe to allow the residents to reenter fort Mac.
Until then they have no place to store furniture items or even large amounts of clothing.
The Red Cross is coordinating relief efforts on the ground and accepting monetary contributions. You can donate by visiting the Red Cross website, calling 1-800-418-1111 or texting the word “REDCROSS” to 30333 to make a $5 donation. The federal government will match all donations made to the Red Cross to assist fire evacuees, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Thursday.
We are planning to donate clothing, furniture, and what we can. Together with other local churches and the town through the correct channels. Please contact the church office if you would like to donate.
